On
26th May residents will have an opportunity to explore some of the borough's
buildings, open spaces and museums as part of 'Havering Mini Open House'.
The
event is free and is a chance to take a closer look at the amazing historical
buildings in Havering and discover more recent additions to the local
architectural landscape.
The
buildings, sites and events open and available to the public include:
•
Bower House, where visitors can walk around the grounds and house and enjoy the
views towards Kent.
•
myplace centre, Harold Hill, where visitors can look around the new building
before it opens to public use.
•
Upminster Old and New, a gentle stroll through Upminster guided by a local
historian.
•
Havering College, Hornchurch, with demonstrations and activities available
including creative arts, beauty, catering and motorsports.
•
Langtons House and Gardens, where guided tours of the Grade II listed Georgian
house and gardens will be available.
•
St Albans Church, built in 1890, the Victorian Gothic church is displaying 22
contemporary artworks specially commissioned from famous artists.
•
RSPB Rainham Marshes, where visitors will be able to see the marshes and
explore the new education centre.
•
Rainham Hall (pictured), built in 1729 with fine examples of domestic
architecture and wrought iron work.
•
Upminster Windmill, a listed timber smock windmill that was still in use until
1934.
•
Upminster Tithe Barn Museum of Nostalgia, containing a collection of everyday
items from the recent past and now featuring an exhibition of the borough's
royal connections.















Havering Museum will be hosting an exhibition dedicated to Crime and Punishment from 14th January to 17th March.
